Laykin Rainbolt

The Delta Garden Study project has made this an interesting year in science class. We have studied a variety of topics from plants to agriculture to the atmosphere. I have really enjoyed the project because I am extremely involved in all aspects of agriculture, especially beef and gardening through my 4-H projects. My favorite part was definitely talking about animal agriculture and genetics. Although I didn’t agree with everything that was taught, I still feel as though the Delta Garden Study is a worthwhile project for all students because everyone should know where their food comes from.

I like the garden because we get to go outside and have some fresh air. We’ve been learning about how to take care of the soil. Sometimes we get to eat some of the fruits and vegetables. So far in the garden we have planted strawberries and garlic. This is why I like the gaden.

The Leslie Elementary 6th Grade Class

The Leslie Elementary 6th grade class has spent many enjoyable hours working in the garden. Everyone agreed that they have been enjoying the opportunity to grow their own plants. Chris enjoys being outside rather than in a classroom. Nick likes the physical activity provided by watering, weeding, turning compost or harvesting. Katelyn, Lexi, Jonathon and Hunter all enjoy feeding, watering and just observing the chickens. Dylan likes eating the fresh picked vegetables. James stated “I LOVE the food when most of the time I don’t like very many veggies”. Renee likes when Rachel makes a “yummy salad” for the class to eat. Elizabeth feels the project is encouraging her to lead a healthier lifestyle. It is also helping her come closer to her dream of owning a farm and safely growing crops. Hayden likes “digging, planting, and eating vegetables from the garden!” Ashlynn enjoys working together with her classmates to do something good for the earth. Sierra said “I love everything about the Delta Garden Project. You get to have fun while learning Science.” Everyone agreed that Rachel and Cale have been doing a great job teaching them about gardening while providing fun activities.

Summer Relation

During this past semester my class and I have been doing great things in the garden. We have picked squash bugs, planted, harvested, and my favorite part, learned. I have looked at learning in a different way ever since the garden started. I do hope we will have it next year. 7th graders and 8th graders should get more active in the garden because if they don’t, then they will wish that they had in the future.

Clay Horton

In the past four months I have enjoyed having Cale and Rachel helping us with our garden! Some see this as a lame recess, but I don’t think so. I think it is an opportunity to explore and learn new things! We have gotten to harvest, plant, and try many different things. Thanks to one of our wonderful garden supervisors we got to eat many of the products that we planted and harvested. Rachel is a very good cook, but if we didn’t have Cale planting the vegetables Rachel wouldn’t have been able to cook us anything.

Personally, I love having the garden. I would love to see it continue next year so we could experience this outdoor classroom in the eighth grade, and even in the years to follow. I have loved the garden program and don’t have any complaints. If I could change anything it would be the fact that we don’t get enough time in the garden. I would love to see the garden here when I graduate! I would also love to see Cale and Rachel here when I graduate. So please keep the garden, Cale, and Rachel as long as you can!

James Housely

This week in the garden we are learning about the greenhouse effect. It’s good we have the greenhouse because it’s been cold lately. I really enjoy the garden. I hope we can keep Cale and Rachel here for a long time. I think that if we keep the garden longer we could get the community to come together and help work in the garden. I think that the garden is a great program and we need it here in Marshall.

Tucker Hoskinds

In the Garden we have learned a lot. I learned about the greenhouse effect. I learned about global warming. I have also planted all kinds of things. The garden is very fun.

Laura Beck

My name is Laura Beck and I have garden on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I really like the garden. What I like most is all the salad. We should eat more salad in the garden. I like it when we do a lot of hands on stuff. It’s cool because I find out new stuff about the garden program and what it means. For instance, it’s really for obesity awareness. I thought that was cool. The only thing I would change about the garden is that we need to get the community more involved (and maybe eat a little more salad). I love Cale and Rachel. They are very nice and cool. And I guess I’ll also count Mr. Massey (Go! Go! Power Rangers!) as cool.

Carly Lindsey

The thing I love most about our school’s garden is being able to do something I do for fun over the summer during school all year round. I enjoy seeing plants grow into beautiful fresh produce that everyday people eat. I enjoy being able to harvest and care for the produce our school garden has grown. Also, it’s a great source of exercise.
